How to use Home Budget Spreadsheet?

Why I use this worksheet?

I use excel to keep detailed record of my personal and family budget with description in very easy and simple way. This excel spreadsheet helps me to track my records whenever I need them, or they help me a lot at the time when I forget that where I have spent my money. Excel worksheet is very helpful for me.

I recommend you to use Quicken reports. You can easily get the result in just one single click. You can save the report, edit it or can keep it for later use. Make sure to use same Quicken name that you have used in spreadsheet to keep confusion away and to easily compare the two, the spreadsheet and the Quicken.

At the end of each month enter the actual balance to the summary section of the worksheet. If you see the actual balance and predicted balance very different then find out why using the details you have entered earlier. You also want to adjust your spreadsheet to review actual income and expenses for that month.

How to calculate actual balance?

I do not treat my investment, retirement and saving account in my balances. I just treat transfer to savings as expenses for home budgeting purpose. I usually add balance to my checking accounts and subtract balance from credit card accounts.
